Nurturing Tech Talent – STEM Internship Scheme 2/2

Programme highlights

  • Internship posts:The internship may be new or part of an existing in-house programme, provided that:
  1. a full-time post, in Hong Kong or elsewhere, lasting at least 28 consecutive days; and
  2. Provides meaningful I&T-related work. Internships arranged by a designated university need that university’s approval

The scheme uses a broad definition of innovation and technology. An internship counts if the actual work has an I&T element, such as technology-related intellectual property, digital marketing or data analysis for manufacturing. Employers, R&D centres and the Productivity Council may pay extra on top of the allowance, at a level they set, without reducing the allowance.

  • Allowance and funding:Interns are paid under each institution’s arrangements. From 1 April 2023 the allowance is HK$11,190 a month. Each institution sets the length, up to 90 days in a school year. The Innovation and Technology Commission reimburses the institutions.

Application deadline

Each participating institution runs the scheme and sets its own application steps. Students who want to join should contact the institution.
